Trattoria al Pompiere
Vicolo Regina D'Ungheria, 5, 37121 Verona VR, Italy
4.6/5
In the heart of Verona, Trattoria al Pompiere is a historic address that started in the first half of the twentieth century as a simple tavern. Today it offers Italian and Venetian cuisine rooted in tradition, reinterpreted with contemporary sensitivity and great attention to seasonality. The menu highlights carefully selected raw materials, homemade fresh pasta, authentic-flavored main courses, and artisanal desserts. Among its distinctive features is the wide selection of cold cuts, with about 35 types, the Italian cheese counter, and a wine cellar with over 1,000 labels. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, simple yet classy, with wooden furnishings and black and white photographs. An elegant and authentic trattoria to explore the Veronese gastronomic culture.

After all these years, it's still the best restaurant in Verona. The food, location and service are all top notch. As such, it's a very popular place so reservations are recommended but it is possible to get a table as a walk-in. Best chances are early or late in the evening. The food is always delicious with the cold cuts of prosciutto being the most famous, but their vegetable dishes are absolutely outstanding too so don't forget to give them a go. Service is professional and prompt and always helpful with great suggestions. And there's a monumental list of impressive wines just to top everything off. Thank you to the team. Highly recommended.

This is a trattoria and not a high end restaurant but all the better for it. The food was wonderful and the wine complimented it perfectly. We asked for recommendations for dessert and immediately they came back with the tiramisu. Now the beef filet - cooked to how the chef wanted cooked, so more rare than medium rare but that was just how I liked it - was delicious. The oxtail and beef cheek equally as good. We shared a side of seasonal veg. Again cooked well but just an extra portion of some of the veg we had with our dishes plus cabbage and spinach. I still scored it high as it was yummy but maybe there could be more consideration as to what is already with the dishes. Bread was also lovely and topped up - a rarity. Dessert, against whilst tasty, I have to say was not the absolute best tiramisu I have ever eaten. It was still very good just slightly heavier on the cream ratio than I like. Would I come here again well …. yes in a heartbeat. Great food overall, great wine and great service (exceptionally patient as we were trying out our Italian). If you are in Verona and want to eat and drink well, you would do well to visit Trattoria al Pompiere. P.S. would recommend booking if thinking of visiting for dinner.

The restaurant is tucked away on a quiet side street near the main square, and if you didn't know it was there, you could easily walk right past it. That would be a real shame. The menu is filled with a small selection of local classics, and you can't go wrong with anything you choose. Kithen is exceptional, and everything we had was perfectly prepared. I would highly recommend a visit if you find yourself in Verona.

We thought there’s a chance that Trattoria al Pompiere might be a tourist trap since Verona is a small town without too many restaurants, especially in this price range. But this was a very fantastic meal. We didn’t expect the restaurant to have such a high caliber of taste and authenticity in their food. Definitely worth booking a reservation here if you’re stopping by Verona.

We had a good experience at Trattoria al Pompiere. The mixed cheese tasting was very good, although the jelly was brought out late, after we had already eaten most of the cheeses. The cold tomato and peppers purée with marinated garden vegetables and herbs was excellent – full of flavor and the highlight of the meal. The tagliolini with fresh forest mushrooms and truffles were pretty good, though we did have better pasta dishes elsewhere in Verona. The parmigiana was also solid. The restaurant has a homey, traditional decor. Service was fine, though not quite as attentive as other places we visited. Overall, worth trying if you’re looking for a classic spot in Verona.

Very cool restaurant. The food is top-notch. The ravioli are highly recommended. And the taralli were the best I've ever had. The tiramisu was the best in Verona, 10/10.
