Osteria al Duca
Via Arche Scaligere, 2, 37121 Verona VR, Italy
4.5/5
In the heart of Verona, on Via Arche Scaligere, Osteria Al Duca is one of the oldest and most characteristic establishments in the city. The venue occupies the first and second floors of a 13th-century tower house that belonged to the Montecchi family, connected to the legend of Romeo and Juliet. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a rustic style, exposed beams, and an authentic Veronese osteria ambiance. The kitchen offers typical dishes from the local tradition, with a wide selection of first and second courses: bigoli al torchio with donkey ragù, gnocchi with ragù, horse tartare, pastissada, tripe, and polenta. The menu is complemented by a wine cellar dedicated to the wines of the Veronese territory. An ideal place to discover traditional cuisine in the historic center of Verona.

We asked our local friends for an authentic Veronese dinner and they brought us to this gem of a restaurant. First, the menu is a fixed price of €26 euros for a first and second course. (Great value!) For my first dish, I tried the Bigoli al torchio con ragù d’Asino (donkey meat) and for my second dish I had the Bistecca di cavallo alla griglia (horse meat steak). I didn’t have any issue with the types of meat and if I hadn’t known, I wouldn’t have suspected that the meats were anything other than a delicious beef. We had a fantastic vino bianchi with our meals and a Recioto della Valpolicella (dessert wine) with biscottis. Highly recommend the Sfogliatine con crema all’arancia Salame di cioccolato and Semifreddo di Giulietta (nocciola) con salsa al cioccolato for dessert. These two desserts were amazing. This was absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best eat meals we have had on our trip to Italy.

Amazing authentic place! Fresh made pasta, the best vitello tonnato yet, and interestingly enough donkey and horse meat on the menu according to local traditions. It’s located in the house of ‘Romeo’, the house belonged to the Montecchi family in the past, which is quite cool. Would recommend. Menu of 2 dishes just for €26.

The food was very good. There is a menu to choose from, consisting of 2 courses. The best arrabbiata pasta I have ever had. The pasta with pesto was average. A good salad with fresh vegetables. I ordered horse steak to try how it tastes. However, I didn’t like it.

We arrived here as a walk-in during a busy lunch service and were seated instantly. The set menu is excellent value and you can sample a variety of Veronese dishes including Bigoli. The food was excellent, arrived quickly and our service was excellent throughout. There are so many places to choose from in Verona but I was glad we stopped by here as it’s frequently recommended: well worth the visit!

What a fantastic discovery!!! I recently went with some friends and had a wonderful time: the place is right in the center, the food is spectacular and they serve it very quickly, the staff is friendly and welcoming, and the value for money is unparalleled. €26 for a first and second course with a choice of many dishes. I felt at home in this osteria and left 100% satisfied. Congratulations! Keep up the good work and always maintain your authenticity, see you soon guys!

The food was absolutely delicious! They serve a menu with a fix price, includes first and second plate and the portions were very generous. Service super friendly and fast! The restaurant is quite nice but the rooms are a bit small so the tables are quite close to eachother. Definitely recomend ! :)
