Via Stella, 5/C, 37121 Verona VR, Italy
4.7/5
In the historic center of Verona, just a few steps from Juliet's Balcony, La Taverna di Via Stella is a typical restaurant with a warm, informal, and family-friendly atmosphere. Established in 1999 from a passion for ancient Venetian traditions, the venue recalls the cellars of old Verona, with wooden furnishings, carefully curated details, and an authentic character. The kitchen offers simple and genuine Veronese and Venetian dishes, without reinterpretations, prepared with attention to tradition: pasta e fasoi, handmade bigoli, risotto all’Amarone, pastissada de caval, polenta and baccalà. The menu is complemented by a rich wine list with over 500 Italian and international labels. A welcoming address to discover the truest flavors of local cuisine.

We had dinner here and were truly impressed by the outstanding food and impeccable service, perfectly complemented by an excellent and diverse wine selection. I strongly recommend booking a table in advance—we were lucky to get one, as several guests were turned away due to the restaurant being fully booked. The daily ragu pasta was delicious, as was the horse meat with polenta. The cured ham starter was outstanding, and the desserts were just as impressive. The wine list is remarkable, and the waiter recommended an excellent local white wine that paired beautifully with our meal.

La Taverna di Via Stella is a great choice for a relaxed, traditional lunch or dinner in Verona. Service is genuinely friendly, and the pasta dishes we tried were well executed and satisfying. The menu also leans into local classics, including traditional Veronese specialties like horse ragù, which adds to the sense of authenticity. A dependable place if you’re looking for something local rather than touristy. Quietly rated: worth stopping.

Delicious food, excellent service and incredibly tasty wine. By far the best restaurant experience you can imagine. We will definitely be coming back next time when in Verona!

Very well done traditional classic Veronese dishes at La Taverna di via Stella in Verona. Red wines by the glass 🍷 invite trying Valpolicella, Valpolicella Superiore, Ripasso della Valpolicella, and Amarone, though I only got the middle two today. They had a special of a whole slow braised stinco di maiale 🐷 for €23, which the table next to me ordered and looked delicious, but I've seen sixteen too many wine braised hunks of meat on my own plate lately. Beware the prohibited games! I opted for house cured pork loin, one smoked, one marinated in Amarone. These were fine and a cut above normal, but I do rarely find charcuterie a representation of the style, attention, or quality of a restaurant - I really should have ordered a more interesting starter. I follow with bigoli (pasta shape) with anatra (duck) ragù - Just as dry but flavorful as those in Bologna. Then a semifreddo and another amaro that I didn't catch the name of but tasted like all the rest, I mean was a wonderful and unique expression of local herbs and bitter forest that couldn't have come from anywhere else but this very spot, which you could taste in every drop.

We truly enjoyed our stay. The setting is elegant and refined, while maintaining the details and atmosphere of traditional Veronese cuisine. I highly recommend this restaurant. The Amarone risotto was excellent, beautifully balanced and rich in flavor. The true quality, however, was evident in the mixed seasonal vegetables: the fennel was simply exceptional. A simple ingredient, but showcased in a surprising and truly delicious way. A special thanks also to the staff, always helpful, kind, and accommodating. Being with our 3-year-old daughter, we greatly appreciated the attention and courtesy we received, qualities that are far from expected.

We had dinner here and arrived right at opening time (7:15 pm). Within minutes the place filled up and it was already very busy - even on a Monday night, which says a lot. The food was incredibly authentic and delicious, and the service was polite and pleasant throughout. I highly recommend this restaurant.
